Cherry & Berry
5/10/2015
Our family welcomed two newest members in the family. Cherry & Berry.
They are the cutest puppies I have seen so far. But being born and raised for 30 days in a farm had given them all kind of fleas and parasites imaginable. So the first task for us when they entered our house was to get them clean. We started with cleaning them in water with dettol and pulling the parasites out with bare hands only to find later that they are not the right way to do things. On their fourth day they visited their vet along with me, my mother and brother in a taxi cab. The vet declared them healthy and prevented, much to their delight, their bath for the next two months. So dry clean them and put an anti-flea talc and they were good to go.
Also we found that they were not pure breeds. For some people it could be a let down. After all who likes mixed breed.Their puppies don't even make for a good sale. So I decided, upon the vet's advise, that to prevent their hormonal imbalances we will get them sterilised. It's weird because when humans produce mixed breed, nobody has a problem.
Anyway, they became a great hit with neighbourhood kids and dog lovers around us. Gaining love and fan following quicker than a movie star, our house was rapidly becoming a destination for the neighbourhood kids coming in immediately after coming home from their school. Hence they were a hit with moms and kids alike.
After 12 days in the house and two visits to the vet for their vaccines they are finally getting used to us (and we to them). Well three visits for Berry cos she went behind my sister and unaware of her presence,my sister stepped on her paw. Their was a loud scream from both of them which woke me up from my afternoon nap. Even the neighbours came out to see if they were safe. Berry was in my sister's arm and both of them had pained expressions. I could not decide whom to help first. I took Berry from my sister's arm and tried to calm her in vain. After a while we put her on the floor but she limped and fell. Me and my siblings had a mild heart attack. My brother started calling the vet for an immediate appointment. My sister tried to scoot Berry in arms but Berry knew who had caused her pain. She jumped and landed on the floor. We sat around her with Cherry observing Berry intently. Very slowly Cherry went near to Berry and licked her. I had a feeling they needed hot milk. So I made them some. Having some milk together and residing pain gave her the confidence to move. After a beat of hesitation she ran after Cherry to make up for all the nudges she was getting from Cherry. My sister burst in tears. Consoling her that she is fine and we are going to the vet anyway she finally composed.
After a thorough examination the vet declared Berry was fine and unharmed. Since then Berry and my sister have reclaimed their friendship. My brother tries to be indifferent to them but melts at their sight. My mother cannot keep her eyes off of them. And I am simply reading and learning everything so that I can raise them properly.
So far its a complete small family.
